Founded in 1940, the University is sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Adrian, Michigan, and is governed by an independent, self-perpetuating Board of Trustees. Barry offers numerous programs in adult and continuing education, arts and sciences, business, communication, education, graduate medical sciences, human performance and leisure sciences, law, natural and health sciences, nursing, psychology, social work and theology. Barry also sponsors dance and theater performances as well as art and photography exhibitions.   Barry includes 40 buildings, with indoor and outdoor athletic facilities, spread over 40 of the University's 90-acre campus and adjacent areas.
